DOROTHY ROBBINS
Director
Dorothy has been an advocate for women’s equality for over thirty years, both as a volunteer and in her professional life. She holds a BA, BSW and MSW (specializing in social policy) from Memorial University. Most of her career in social work has involved a gender analysis of social and economic policies.
She is a founding mother of the Labrador West Status of Women Council and served in a number of executive positions with that group through-out the 1970s. In 1981 Dorothy moved to St. John’s and became the first Executive Director of the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women. In 1986 she became the Director of Research and Planning in the Women’s Policy Office, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, where she worked until her retirement.
Over the years Dorothy has served on numerous boards as a volunteer and in the public service as a member of a number of provincial interdepartmental committees and federal/provincial/territorial working groups dedicated to women’s equality. She is a founding mother of the Women and Resource Development Committee.
