SOPHIE FORD
Director

Sophie Ford is currently employed with Vale Inco Newfoundland and Labrador as the Inuit Employment Coordinator, a position that she has held since 2002.

Sophie attended Memorial University for four years working towards a Bachelor of Education and has obtained a Certificate in Accounting.    Sophie is a Nunatsiavut Beneficiary and has helped organize a volunteer group Nain CARE (Community Assistance and Relief Effort) to help families who need assistance after a tragic event or death. 

Before working with Vale Inco, Sophie was the employed by Memorial University as Native and Northern Teacher Education Program as Coordinator where she served on an Advisory Committee to help improve education programs with Inuit in Northern Labrador.  Sophie now oversees an Inuit Advisory Committee in Voisey’s Bay which deals with Inuit specific issues at mining site.

Sophie’s job with Voisey’s Bay involves travel to the five Nunatsiavut communities encouraging students to stay in school and educating students on the job opportunities that are at the Voisey’s Bay site.  She also helps organize and coordinate student visits into site, including the OTT class from the College of the North Atlantic in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
