OBJECTIVES

The overall objectives of this program are to a) show the participants how to harness renewable energy;  b) encourage them to reflect upon issues of climate change; and, c) introduce  them to the career opportunities in the area of renewable energy. As in all of the ERC’s programs an overarching and consistent message is to encourage girls and young women to adopt a positive attitude regarding their ability to pursue non-tradtitional careers.

GOALS

  • Introduce Grade 7 girls to the concept of how power can be generated from various renewable energy resources.
  • Educate them about Green House Gases (GHG’s), while inspiring them to consider the environment and what they can do to reduce GHG’s in their daily lives.
  • Help girls realise the impact that their own choices make on the environment.
  • Provide girls with information on careers in fields related to renewable energy by introducing them to the research, issues and occupations in the field.
  • Encourage girls to think about taking science and math in high-school so as not to cut off career choices later.
