OVERVIEW

Specialty items like jams and wines made from local berries, chocolates and beverages made from iceberg water all have a growing market, and are part of the agri-foods industry. Actually, growing flowers and household garden plants is the fastest growing part of the industry in recent years. In 1988 it was worth almost $9 million.

The total value of farm production in 1999 rose by 4.9% to $75 million. The value of farm production has risen consistently in 24 of the last 26 years. A breakdown of the farming industry in Newfoundland, per agriculture sector, can be found here.
