LABOUR FORCE

Direct employment in the Newfoundland and Labrador Mining Industry is projected to be 4112 person years in 2009.This projection is substantially increased due to the start-up of the construction of the ValeInco hydromet facility at Long Harbour.

According to Mining Industry Human Resources (MIHR) one in every 46 Canadian jobs is related to mining. In the goods producing sector, mining accounts for one in every ten jobs.

According to Statistics Canada 2006 census .The total % of women in mining in Newfoundland and Labrador is 12.5.
