OVERVIEW

The Petroleum Industry in Newfoundland and Labrador includes the exploration and production of offshore and onshore oil, as well as the refining of that oil and its shipment to market. It is a fairly new industry in the province (especially when compared to other resource-based sectors, such as the fishery, agriculture, and forestry). This overview will describe the activity in the different sectors of the petroleum industry, touching on several major projects within the province. It will also discuss the number of women working in the industry, and highlight the available employment opportunities for women to consider.
